All 12 bamboo-and-bone tiles were hand-selected from early-1920s vintage sets, dating to the period when Mahjong was first promoted in the United States and embraced by elite American players. During the late 1920s, as demand increased, the Chinese Mahjong industry began sourcing cattle bone from Chicago slaughterhouses, which led to thinner bone layers and subtle variations in tile construction. Each tile from this era was entirely hand-crafted, making no two sets exactly alike.

This set honors that original craftsmanship while allowing your vintage Mahjong set to remain playable, authentic, and historically respectful.


Each tile has been carefully restored using premium matte vinyl decals, individually hand-cut and applied, then sealed with a protective matte finish to maintain both durability and vintage aesthetics.

• Bamboo-to-Bone Ratio: Approximately 45/55, a desirable composition commonly found in early-1920s hand-crafted dovetailed sets
• Bamboo Back Color: Deep Golden Oak tone
• Finish: Smooth, naturally aged bone surface with warm, visible bamboo grain on the back
• Condition: Authentic aged bone with tight dovetail joints; tiny line-cut bamboo back clearly visible (see final photo)

Restoration: Carefully fitted with replacement decals. Clean, balanced, and ready for American-style Mahjong play.
